Day 1

BREAKFAST

You’ll need to nourish well for a full day hiking and exploring. Try one of these downtown restaurants.

Two Chef’s Affair – Enjoy homemade pastries and delicious wholesome breakfasts.

Gabriel’s Cafe – Farm fresh food to fuel you.

Mon Petit Choux – Wholesome and simple ingredients combine for delicious food first thing.

ACTIVITY

Head out on the water for a short ferry ride to Newcastle Island, Saysutshun, traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Take a hike around the island, and stop for a swim. This Provincial Park is accessible only by water and you’ll feel like you are in your own paradise.

LUNCH

Stay for lunch at the Saysutshun Bistro, where you can enjoy traditional First Nation food including smoked salmon, mussels and bannock. The seafood chowder is delicious!

ACTIVITY

Take the ferry back to Nanaimo’s harbour and enjoy a stroll along the water. Stop at Maffeo Sutton Park and take in the public art exhibits. Walk along the sea wall and stop in for a sightseeing tour with a float plane operator. You’ll see Nanaimo from new heights!

DINNER

You’ll be tired after a day of walking and exploring. Enjoy dinner in the Harbour.

Lighthouse Bistro & Pub – Treat yourself to a cocktail and delicious seafood from your table in the heart of the harbour. Watch boats dock for the evening.

Penny’s Palapa  – Whether taking out from the taco window (and strolling along the harbour) or sitting in, Penny’s Palapas has fresh Mexican cuisine. May we suggest the ice-tea.

Both of these are ocean side at the Marina.

ACTIVITY

Take a self-guided tour of Nanaimo’s historic buildings, taking in the architecture of this once coal-mining town and harbour city. Stop at The Bastion, the last remaining Hudson’s Bay Company bastion in North America.

Day 2

BREAKFAST

Fuel up for another day of outdoor adventure finding yourself in our woods. Head to North Nanaimo, stopping for breakfast along the way.

Rawmbas – Come to Rawmbas for gluten-free and dairy-free fuel to start your day, including shakes made from simple wholesome ingredients. Pick up a gluten-free muffin and you won’t be disappointed.

Ricky’s All Day Grill – Enjoy bacon, eggs, pancakes and more at this affordable and delicious diner.

ACTIVITY

Head to Neck Point Park and experience the essence of Nanaimo – stunning imagery and outdoor adventure as you walk along the shoreline, over rugged rocks and pebble bay beachs and through the winding trails of Gary Oak groves.  Bring your camera, this is a photographer’s delight.

LUNCH

Riso – Head a little more north and find farm-to-table fresh and delicious delights like woodfire pizza at Riso.

Longwood Brew Pub – Craving a burger and brew after all that walking? Settle onto the outdoor patio or inside this bustling restaurant that brews its own beer and makes delicious food for all tastes.

ACTIVITY

Head to Westwood Lake and enjoy a hike. An easier path takes you adjacent to the water or try one of the more challenging trails if you are feeling up for it.

DINNER

A day of hiking and exploring deserves a relaxing evening and that starts with delicious food. Head to the Old City Quarter downtown Nanaimo.

Asteras Greek Taverna – Enjoy delicious greek food and beverages in the heart of the Old City Quarter.

La Stella Trattoria  – Wood-fire pizza and delicious handmade pasta, it doesn’t get much better than this.

ACTIVITY
