Industry Professional Development Series: Winter 2019
Tourism Nanaimo invites tourism operators, businesses and industry partners to attend our upcoming industry professional development series, created specifically for Nanaimo’s tourism industry.
Attendees are welcome to register for any/all of the sessions, all of which will be designed and facilitated by Tourism Nanaimo staff. Each session will include an interactive component with a worksheet and “takeaways” for businesses and organizations. Please note, service providers may register to attend if they have a service contract with a business/organization that selling/servicing direct to a visitor consumer, and is attending as a representative of that business/organization.
There is no cost to attend, however registration is required as seating is limited.

Session 2: Tuesday January 29, 2019
Intro to Destination Development:
Destination development is a relatively new concept in the tourism industry, largely publicized in the media in conjunction with examples of “overtourism”. This session with provide an introduction to the concept of destination development, what this means for Nanaimo as a destination, Tourism Nanaimo’s role in sustainably enhancing the destination, and how businesses and organizations can position and align products and experiences to reap the most benefit from Nanaimo’s tourist market.

Session 3: Tuesday February 12, 2019
Intro to Business Strategy for Tourism Products & Experiences:
Whether you deciding whether or not to expand your business, attract sponsorships, or apply for government funding, having a solid business plan is key. This working session is a crash course in business strategy; businesses/organizations in the tourism industry will be guided through building an effective business plan, starting with visioning and mission identification, moving through market analysis, development strategies, profit/sustainability models and identification of goals and strategies.
