Hey guys – Kara here!
Halloween is just over a week away – have you picked out the perfect pumpkin yet? I have! I took my family with some friends out to McNab’s Farm for a fun little countryside adventure in Yellow Point. We arrived to a beautiful display of pumpkins, squash and other gourds stacked high. They were absolutely beautiful and set the stage for a great photo op.
We first decided to wander over to the animals. My 1.5 year old loved the little piggies as they snorted and snuffed and poked their little snouts through the fence. There were goats, bunnies and chickens for our viewing pleasure too!
We then decided to stroll down to the corn maze to check it out. It was very impressive and is definitely one of the highlights of the farm. We only walked in a few meters with the kids but we saw lots of other folks coming and going who were full of energy and excitement. The corn maze is an impressive 7 acres and for those who are looking for the ultimate Halloween experience there is a night maze open until November 1st.
Next, it was time to hop aboard the hay ride down to the pumpkin patch. Pulled by a tractor we sat in the wagon on hay bales and bumped along the path. It was lots of fun and the kids had a hoot. We each picked out our favorite pumpkin and hauled it back to the tractor to bring us back up to the produce stand to pay for our treasures.
There was very much a community feel to the place with lots of groups sitting around fire pits roasting hotdogs and marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate. There were even a few gentlemen playing their guitars and singing songs!
As we strolled back to our vehicle we said goodbye to some very sweet neighbour horses who were happy to come over for a nose rub.
If you have time you should also check out Yellow Point Cranberries (just across the road from McNabs) to pick up some of their fabulous cranberry products for your festive fall dinners. Til next time!
