For the Media

Destination Nanaimo, the tourism marketing arm of the City of Nanaimo and Tourism Nanaimo are pleased to offer a number of support services to assist visiting and local members of the media. Destination Nanaimo offers services to assist out-of-town travel media, while Tourism Nanaimo provides local media support in the Nanaimo area.

Our goal is to develop long-term positive working relationships with writers, editors, and producers who are interested in reporting on and sharing their travel experiences in Nanaimo with the rest of the world.

Our trained staff offers the following services to qualified media:

• Standard and customized itineraries, (as resources allow and given sufficient notice)
• Request a hardcopy Media Kit or customized Media Kit (Click to send an e-mail)
• Story ideas and access to contacts and resources
• Online or hardcopy visitor’s guide
• Image gallery
• High resolution B-Roll and Terry Patterson Photography to choose from
• Background information, statistics, and event calendars
• Liaison with tourism partners
• Interview opportunities
• Assistance with event or attraction passes or discounts
• Complimentary or discounted accommodation (depending on notice given and the assignment)
• Checking your Nanaimo facts

We require the following information to help us fulfil requests to host visiting journalists:

Our Guidelines:

• Four weeks notice of visits requiring assistance with accommodation and attraction passes or discounts
• Tentative arrival and departure dates
• Submission of the Media Profile Form (PDF, right click + 'Save As')
• A letter of assignment on the publication’s letterhead and a recent copy of the publication, and/or clippings of at least two recently published travel-related works
• Information on any accommodation preferences
• Any special dietary needs or other requests
